Professore Emerito presso Kristianstad University, Svezia, e uno dei principali ricercatori clinici al mondo nella perimplantite, con oltre 25 anni di studio continuo sulla sua epidemiologia, sugli indicatori di rischio, sulla diagnosi e sui risultati del trattamento. Il suo articolo del 2018 che ha co-definito salute peri-implantare, mucosite e perimplantite per il World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases, pubblicato su Journal of Periodontology e Journal of Clinical Periodontology, è stato citato oltre 1.750 volte ed è tra le pubblicazioni più influenti dell'implantologia moderna.
Autore di oltre 200 pubblicazioni scientifiche peer-reviewed e coautore di diversi libri di testo e revisioni sistematiche sulla gestione delle malattie peri-implantari. La sua ricerca comprende anche alitosi orale, salute parodontale nelle popolazioni anziane e associazioni sistemiche della parodontite. È coautore del testo Quintessence Peri-Implantitis con Giovanni Edoardo Salvi e Nikos Donos.
Docent e PhD presso Malmö University e Lund University, Svezia. Honorary Professor presso Dublin Dental University Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, University of Hong Kong, Cina, e Blekinge Institute of Technology, Svezia.
