Professore e Chair di Ortodonzia presso la Faculty of Dentistry dell'Università di Otago, Nuova Zelanda, responsabile del Postgraduate Programme in Orthodontics, Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry, e direttore del Craniofacial Research Programme. La sua pratica clinica è limitata esclusivamente all'ortodonzia. È European Board Certified Specialist in Orthodontics con oltre 30 anni di esperienza clinica.
È un'autorità di ricerca riconosciuta a livello internazionale su funzione mandibolare, bruxismo, muscoli orofacciali e biomeccanica dell'articolazione temporomandibolare. La sua ricerca è stata sostenuta da finanziamenti superiori a 1 milione di euro provenienti da enti europei e neozelandesi. Ha ricevuto l'Alan Docking Award della International Association for Dental Research, il Sir John Walsh Award e il Research Supervisor of the Year Award dell'Università di Otago nel 2021. È Associate Editor di Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research e del Korean Journal of Orthodontics, nonché membro dell'Editorial Board del Journal of Oral Rehabilitation. Ha tenuto conferenze in 22 paesi.
