Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthodontics, School of Dentistry, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea. Pioneer in the development and clinical application of orthodontic microimplants (mini-screws) for skeletal anchorage. One of the most cited researchers in temporary anchorage device (TAD) biomechanics worldwide.
Over 27 years of clinical experience using microimplants for orthodontic anchorage since beginning pioneering work in 1998. Expert in complex tooth movement using skeletal anchorage including intrusion mechanics, en-masse retraction, molar uprighting, and correction of severe malocclusions without orthognathic surgery. Research focuses on microimplant design optimization, biomechanics of TAD-driven tooth movement, and clinical protocols to improve microimplant success rates.
Holder of ten patents related to microimplant technology and orthodontic devices. Author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles published in leading international orthodontic journals with over 9,700 citations, establishing him as one of the most influential researchers in orthodontic biomechanics. Author or co-author of six textbooks and eight book chapters on orthodontic microimplants. Keynote speaker at over 80 world-renowned orthodontic meetings globally. Provided comprehensive 2-3 day microimplant training courses internationally over 230 times. Serves as editorial reviewer for American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics (AJO-DO), Angle Orthodontist, European Journal of Orthodontics, Progress in Orthodontics, Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research, Journal of Orthodontics, Korean Journal of Orthodontics, and other journals.
DDS, MSD (Master of Science in Dentistry), and PhD from Kyungpook National University, South Korea, completing doctoral studies in 1997. Certificate in Orthodontics from Kyungpook National University Dental Hospital.
