È una delle figure più influenti della chirurgia orale del ventesimo e ventunesimo secolo, noto soprattutto per due contributi storici: lo sviluppo del Platelet-Rich Plasma, PRP, come adiuvante chirurgico negli innesti ossei nel 1998, e la prima identificazione e descrizione clinica della Bisphosphonate-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, BRONJ, in una lettera pubblicata su JOMS nel 2003, che ha innescato una rivalutazione mondiale dei protocolli di terapia con bisfosfonati nei pazienti odontoiatrici trattati con pamidronato o acido zoledronico per via endovenosa.
