Oltre 50 anni di esperienza accademica e clinica nei disturbi temporomandibolari e gestione del dolore orofacciale. Ha sviluppato il primo programma di Master of Science in Dolore Orofacciale negli Stati Uniti, accreditato dall'American Academy of Orofacial Pain. Il Programma di Residenza in Dolore Orofacciale è stato tra i primi accreditati dalla Commission on Dental Accreditation, laureando 65 residenti a tempo pieno provenienti da 26 paesi.
Professore e capo della Divisione di Dolore Orofacciale, membro di facoltà a tempo pieno presso l'Università del Kentucky per 45 anni.
