Oltre 45 anni di esperienza accademica e clinica in protesi fissa, occlusione e gestione dei DTM. Sviluppatore del concetto OCTA (Architettura Occlusale) per assicurare trattamenti ortodontici e protesici attraverso principi di design occlusale funzionale. Ex presidente del Dipartimento di Occlusione e Disfunzione e ex Vice-Preside responsabile dell'educazione dentale presso la Facoltà di Odontoiatria, Università di Aix-Marseille.

 

Direttore dei programmi di educazione post-laurea in occlusione e DTM, e protesi fissa presso l'Università di Aix-Marseille. Professore in visita presso l'Università del Danubio, Austria. Ex presidente del Collegio Nazionale Francese di Occlusodontologia (1995-1996) e dell'Accademia Internazionale di Odontoiatria Interdisciplinare Avanzata (iAAID).

 

DDS dalla Facoltà di Odontoiatria, Università di Aix-Marseille (1978). Certificato in Antropologia (1979) e Protesi Fissa e Occlusodontologia (1980). Master (DSO, 1983). PhD (Doctorat d'Université, 1990). Professore Ordinario dal 2007. Autore di 8 libri e oltre 160 pubblicazioni scientifiche su occlusione, DTM e protesi. Membro dell'Accademia Europea dei Disturbi Craniomandibolari.

 
He has been a full time faculty member at the University of Kentucky for 45 years. He is recognized worldwide as an authority in the field of TMD and orofacial pain, lecturing in every state in the USA and 59 different foreign countries. His textbooks have been translated into eleven different foreign languages and have become a standard for teaching throughout the world. His peers have called him the “World Ambassador for Orofacial pain”. He is a highly sought after speaker and has given more than 1300 invited lectures throughout the world. He has received numerous awards, honors and recognitions for his outstanding teaching and educational abilities. Some of these awards include the campus wide University of Kentucky “Great Teacher Award”, the Provost’s Distinguished Service Professorship, the American Academy of Orofacial Pain’s Service Award and the first ever “Distinguished Alumni Award” from the College of Dentistry. In addition, he received the State of Kentucky Acorn Award for the best professor in the state and was inducted into the University of Kentucky Hall of Distinguished Alumni. Dr. Okeson has also received “The International Dentist of the Year Award” from the Academy of Dentistry International. This is the highest award recognized by this Academy and was given to him in recognition of his worldwide efforts in providing education in the area of temporomandibular disorders and orofacial pain. In addition to his two textbooks, he has more then 240 publications in scientific journals. He is founder of the Orofacial Pain Program at the University of Kentucky. He has developed several full-time teaching programs associated with the Center. The Master of Science Degree program he established was the first in the United States to be accredited by the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. The Orofacial Pain Residency Program was one of the very first to be accreditated by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. This program has graduated 65 full time residents from 26 different countries. He is active in many national and international organizations and is past president of the American Academy of Orofacial Pain. He is also a founding diplomate and twice past president of the American Board of Orofacial Pain. Dr. Okeson is presently serving as Dean of the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Dr. Okeson is a captivating lecturer with a teaching style that is engaging, logical and based on the available science. He is one of the few individuals in the world capable of bringing all these subjects together into one lecture series.

Oltre 42 anni di esperienza clinica, didattica e di ricerca combinata dalla laurea nel 1984. Esperta in diagnosi e trattamento di disturbi temporomandibolari, gestione del dolore orofacciale, trattamento ortodontico e sua relazione con TMD, terapia manuale per condizioni muscoloscheletriche, terapia cognitivo-comportamentale per pazienti TMD, esercizi mandibolari e trattamento TMD centrato sul paziente. Pratica limitata esclusivamente a trattamento ortodontico e gestione di disturbi temporomandibolari. Ricerca focalizzata su fisiopatologia dei muscoli masticatori, eziologia, diagnosi e terapia di disturbi craniomandibolari, correlazione tra TMD e ortodonzia, meccanismi del dolore nella regione orofacciale ed efficacia di varie terapie TMD.

 

Ex Presidente della European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders (EACMD, 2010). Ex Presidente del Neuroscience Group di IADR (International Association for Dental Research, 2011). Ex Presidente di SIDA (Società Italiana Disfunzioni ed Algie Temporomandibolari, 2012-2013). Destinataria di Honorary Degree in Dentistry dalla University of Malmö, Svezia (2018). Autrice di oltre 170 articoli pubblicati in riviste italiane e internazionali peer-reviewed. Docente internazionale avendo presentato estensivamente in Europa, Americhe e mondialmente. Co-autrice della International Classification of Orofacial Pain (ICOP). Esperta in diversi comitati di ricerca internazionali e nazionali. Revisore per riviste internazionali maggiori in ortodonzia e dolore orofacciale. Educatrice avendo formato centinaia di ortodontisti e specialisti TMD attraverso programmi di postgraduate presso University of Naples.

Nomina come Full Professor in Orthodontics and Clinical Gnathology presso University of Naples Federico II. In 2012 he started the Medical Speciality in Stomatology at the Hospital Universitário de Santa Maria - Lisboa Portugal, in 2016 he concluded the residency with 19,6 values.

During this period he designed an important preclinical trial - TEMPOJIMS and started a PhD program at the Faculty of Medicine of Lisbon University.

During the investigation he was awarded with 6 national and international prizes and managed to acquire major knowledge regarding temporomandibular disorders.

Prof. Dr. David Ângelo is the clinical director of Instituto Português da Face, a clinical center in Lisbon mostly dedicated to patients with temporomandibular disorders.
