Descrizione

Lezione 1.OrthoEvolution 3.0. Vertical Control with TADs: Etiology and Treatment Modalities of Anterior Open Bite and Relapse

- The etiology of anterior open bite and treatment modalities;
- Relapse after anterior open bite correction;
- The factors that affect relapse after anterior open bite correction

Anterior open bite is difficult to treat because it is caused by the interaction of multiple etiologic factors such as heredity, unfavorable mandibular growth patterns, nasopharyngeal airway obstruction, digit-sucking habits, tongue posture and activity, and an imbalance between the posture of the jaws. Proper diagnosis and treatment planning, successful treatment, and retention are important to the long-term stability of open bite treatment. In this lecture, various treatment modalities of anterior open bite and relapse will be discussed. After the lecture, clinicians will be able to treat and finish anterior open bite cases more efficiently and successfully while minimizing the chance of relapse.

Lezione 2.OrthoEvolution 3.0: Orthodontic Retention with clear plastic retainers – what you need to know

- Understand reasons for relapse and how that helps us consent our patients for treatment and reduce instability during our treatment and retainer planning
- Compare clear plastic retainers with other retainers using the best evidence
- Explore different types of material for clear plastic retainers
- Look at ways to reduce failure and complications with clear plastic retainers
- Practical tips for using clear plastic retainers

Lezione 3.OrthoEvolution 3.0. Anterior Open Bite Correction: Surgery vs. TADs

- Discuss how to prepare for the new ABO Scenario-based Oral Clinical Examination in diagnosis and treatment planning, treatment implementation and management, and critical analysis and outcomes assessment in AOB cases;
- Identify clinical situations in which CBCT imaging and TADs would be beneficial in AOB correction;
- Understand clinical applications and biomechanical considerations of orthognathic surgery vs. TADs in challenging AOB cases

Anterior open bite (AOB) can be corrected by orthognathic surgery or orthodontic treatment. Severe skeletal, facial, and functional problems should be corrected by orthognathic surgery, but combining cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) and temporary anchorage devices (TADs) provides an efficient and accurate way to correct AOB. Nowadays, by using TADs, we can expand orthodontic boundaries. In this lecture, various clinical applications of TADs and orthognathic surgery will be discussed in challenging AOB cases along with the new American Board of Orthodontics (ABO) Scenario-based Oral Clinical Examination domains. After the lecture, clinicians will be able to treat and finish anterior open bite cases more efficiently and successfully while minimizing the chance of relapse.

Lezione 4.OrthoEvolution 3.0: Hemimandibular hyperplasy and facial asymmetry

- Differential diagnosis of pathologies that cause facial asymmetry- The effect of unilateral condylar hyperplasia in a growing and non growing individual. - Тhe effect of condylar fracture or trauma (impact) to the joint that may affect mandibular growth. - Тhe diagnostic test and surgical treatment of hemimandibular hyperplasy and facial asymmetry

Lezione 5.OrthoEvolution 3.0. Progressive/Idiopathic Condylar Resorption: Case Reports. Management of unsalvageable TMJ

- Тhe pathogenesis of TM joint degenerative disease- Тhe clinical management of TM joint arthritides- Progressive/Idiopathic Condylar Resorption- Management of unsalvageable TMJ

Progressive condylar resorption (PCR) also known as idiopathic condylar resorption (ICR) is an uncommon, aggressive, degenerative disease of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) seen mostly in adolescent and young women. This condition leads to loss of condylar bone mass, decrease of mandibular ramal height, steep mandibular and occlusal plane angle, and an anterior open bite.

Lezione 6.OrthoEvolution 3.0: Retention and Relapse in Orthodontics

- Retention of treatment results
- The dependence of the retention plan on the ongoing orthodontic treatment
- Saving space for tooth extraction (clinical case demonstration)
- The final stage of orthodontic treatment and detail in order to obtain a stable result
- Evidence-Based Open Bite Treatment Protocol
- The use of mini implants and elastics in order to obtain a stable result
- Protocols to follow after maxillary expansion
- The value of excessive correction in obtaining a stable result
- Retention protocol after treatment of Class II by growth modifications
- Retention protocol after treatment of Class II with an average angle
- The protocol for retaining High Mandibular plane angle Class II cases

Lezione 7.OrthoEvolution 3.0: Root Resorption Associated With Orthodontic Tooth Movement

- Informed consent of the patient before starting orthodontic treatment (identification of risk factors for root resorption. Conversation with the patient about these factors and the consequences of orthodontic treatment)
- Biological aspects of root resorption
- Predisposing factors to root resorption:

        1. Factors Related to Tooth Movements.
        2. Factors related to the shape of the roots.
        3. Factors related to Cortical bone thickness
        4. Factors related to Duration of treatment.
        5. Factors related to the degree of initial root resorption prior to starting Ortho treatment
        6. Factors Related to Genetic predisposition of the patient.

Lezione 8.OrthoEvolution 3.0. Class III dental compensation with miniplates: what did I learn in 20 years?

- Recognize the indications of lower teeth retraction with miniplates for class III correction
- Understand the proper miniplate position for successful mechanics
- Identify the anatomical limitations for lower teeth retraction
- Discern the side effects of lower teeth retraction
- Understand how to control the side effects for ideal results
- Understand the adequate retention protocol after retraction

Lezione 9.OrthoEvolution 3.0: Complex space closure of missing teeth with TADs

- Recognize the indications of closing the space of missing teeth
- Understand the components of the proper orthodontic mechanics
- Discern the side effects of space closure
- Understand how to control the side effects for ideal results
- Determine the proper miniplate position for space closure and its variations according to individual variability
- Understand the proper steps for ideal canine reshaping
- Distinguish the advantages of space closure in comparison to the implant rehabilitation
