Programma

Modern full mouth rehabilitation is no longer just about teeth. It is about function, biomechanics, TMD, pain diagnostics, and the clinician’s ability to make precise decisions in complex clinical cases.

We invite you to an exclusive hands-on workshop by Lukas Lassmann that delivers not just a collection of techniques, but a complete clinical system designed to help clinicians understand function, predict outcomes, and create stable occlusion in complex rehabilitations.

Throughout the course, you will explore modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with orofacial pain, TMD, severe tooth wear, and cases requiring full mouth rehabilitation. Instead of contradictory concepts and theoretical debates, you will gain clear clinical protocols, practical decision-making algorithms, and tools that can be implemented immediately in daily practice.

During the course, you will learn:

– diagnosis of orofacial pain and TMD
– differentiation between muscular and joint pathologies
– modern approaches to occlusion and centric relation
– the SDS concept and joint space management
– determination and registration of VDO in severe wear cases
– full mouth rehabilitation planning and smile design
– clinical application of deprogrammers and splints
– step-by-step rehabilitation protocols from the first appointment to final delivery
– interdisciplinary collaboration between prosthodontists, orthodontists, and surgeons in complex cases.

During the practical part of the course, you will practice clinical protocols for muscle and TMJ examination, as well as the clinical application of the Leaf Gauge.

Autumn in Istanbul is the perfect setting to combine intensive education, professional inspiration, and leisure — with the Bosphorus, cozy terraces, historic streets, exceptional gastronomy, and the unique atmosphere of a city you will want to return to again and again.

Program

Day 1. Theory

Understanding Orofacial Pain & TMJ – What a Prosthodontist Should Know

– What is pain? How can a dentist correctly diagnose orofacial pain and assess whether it is treatable?
– How does the source of pain differ from the location of pain?
– How to conduct an interview with a patient suffering from pain
– Disc pathology – how to differentiate it and when intervention is necessary
– How to distinguish between muscle and articular locks
– Synovial pain map of the temporomandibular joint
– Radiological presentation of temporomandibular joint disorders.

SDS Concept

– What is the SDS Concept?
– Management of TMJ space
– Controversies regarding centric relation from the perspective of diagnosis and therapy
– Minimum required space for ceramic restorations
– Smile Design
– How to start treatment planning in cases of severe tooth wear
– Leaf gauge vs. digital axiography
– The 18 mm rule in severe tooth wear
– A simple way to determine and register the exact vertical occlusal dimension in the mouth.

SDS Concept in Multidisciplinary Treatment

– How to determine the correct Vertical Dimension of Occlusion based on Smile Design and material space requirements
– Treatment planning in severe attrition and gummy smile cases
– Cooperation between prosthodontist and orthodontist in deep bite and gummy smile cases
– Orthodontic pretreatment in Class III patients requiring full mouth reconstruction.

Occlusal Philosophies – In Search of a Common Denominator

– How have occlusal philosophies evolved regarding tooth guidance and its impact on bruxism and TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders)?
– Improper occlusion and TMD – correlation or causation?
– Is the use of fully adjustable articulators and a facebow truly necessary for proper prosthetic reconstruction?
– Searching for common ground among different occlusal philosophies
– What are the limitations of articulators, and can we truly design prosthetic reconstructions that never require occlusal adjustment?

Kois Deprogrammer, Lucia Jig, Dawson Manipulation and Splints – When? Why? How?

– “Deprogramming” – a necessity to achieve CR or pseudoscience?
– Kois Deprogrammer – how to determine the platform height
– Bite registration using a deprogrammer
– Incisal Pin (LIP Technique)
– Dawson manipulation
– How to verify the accuracy of the registration
– Night guards / splints – indications, material selection, and bite registration
– What contacts and guidance should be achieved on the appliance? Delivery and relining.

Vertical Occlusal Dimension Mythology and Severe Attrition Treatment

– Vertical occlusal dimension – what are the limitations? Should we be “that” precise?
– Five red flags when increasing VDO
– Bite registration in severe wear cases
– Management of severe tooth wear cases
– What is the ferrule effect and which part of the tooth is the most important?
– Biomechanics of structurally compromised teeth
– What type of post should be selected: prefabricated, fiberglass, or cast post?
– Shoulderless preparation – why, how, and when?

How to Achieve a Perfect Bite for Our Patient?

– What is equilibration? When should it be performed and when is it contraindicated? P1, P2, P3
– Differences between equilibration in MIP and in CR
– Electronic bite analyzers – T-Scan and OccluSense
– When to perform equilibration and when to increase the vertical occlusal dimension
– Managing interferences during chewing
– Equilibration in static occlusion and during function – step-by-step video demonstration
