Programma
This course represents the second stage of Kois Concept training, guiding clinicians from the diagnostic phase to active clinical management of function and occlusion.
The program emphasizes functional logic: interpreting clinical data, distinguishing muscular issues from joint problems, and making evidence-based decisions in bite management.
Participants will learn to leverage patient history as a key diagnostic tool, identify functional “red flags” before treatment begins, and use centric relation as the foundation for stable, long-lasting prosthetic solutions.
Key Seminar Topics:
— Functional Diagnostic “Gateways”
Utilizing extended patient history and the Kois Q21 questionnaire to detect functional risks early and differentiate joint instability from muscular dysfunction.
— Clinical Foundation of Function
Step-by-step protocols for TMJ and masticatory muscle assessment, including joint sound analysis and load testing.
— Diagnostic Integration
Applying the Kois 10-step diagnostic system to confirm functional diagnoses and guide clinical decision-making.
— Therapeutic Management
Using the Kois Deprogrammer to transition from diagnostics to a stable centric relation record and establish a frictionless bite.
The course lecturer, Tse Tak On Ryan, is a student and dedicated follower of John Kois, a practicing clinician and educator who has fully integrated the Kois Concept into daily clinical practice.
IMPORTANT: the “Comfort” and “VIP” participation options are also available for purchase.
Basic advantages of the “Standard” option:
– Participation in the scientific program
– Coffee break
– Notes and handouts
– Certificate of participation
– ADA credits available upon request.
Program
Objective: Transition from diagnostic screening to active clinical management using the functional philosophy of the Kois Concept.
Diagnostic “Gateways” (09:00–12:30)
— The Power of Patient History: Dental History and Q21:
- Utilizing the 21-question Kois questionnaire to identify functional risks even before the clinical examination
- Identifying “Red Flags”: Differentiating joint instability from muscular dysfunction based on patient responses.
— Clinical Foundation: TMJ and Muscle Assessment:
- Step-by-step clinical protocol for evaluating the TMJ:
Joint sound analysis
Load testing
— Integrated Analysis:
- Applying the Kois 10-Step Diagnostic System (KDS) from Module 1 to confirm functional diagnoses and guide clinical reasoning.
Functional “Blueprint” (13:30–17:30)
— Bite Management: CR vs. MIP:
- Understanding the differences and clinical significance of Centric Relation (CR) versus Maximum Intercuspation (MIP).
— Functional Occlusion Principles:
- Managing the “chewing envelope” and tooth wear
- Designing occlusion based on the patient’s neuromuscular and behavioral patterns.
— Therapeutic Management with the Kois Deprogrammer:
- Clinical application from functional diagnostics to finalizing the centric relation record
- Establishing a frictionless bite as the foundation for long-term prosthetic success.
